Waiting in Winnipeg

Hi All!
It took me some time to figure out the blog thing but here I am! I don't know how to add pictures so sorry you're out of luck. I thought I'd fill you in on a little bit about myself...I am Canadian currently living in Winnipeg, Manitoba (right in the middle of the country) and just got back in November from an organic farming internship in Southern Ontario. That was my first farm experience and my first real introduction to food politics as well as cooking and eating locally. I loved it! I studied Environment and Resource Studies at University and have been done for almost 2 years now. Since then I have been moving about trying different things to see what my calling in life may be. I know I am interested in sustainable living and will possibly start my own (or join an) eco-village someday soon. As well I love being outside, working outside and cooking/baking with the yummy things I grow outside! Pies are my specialty. Currently I am just waiting in Winnipeg for March to come around. I am SO excited about Spannocchia and all of the things we will learn. I am planning on staying in Europe in 7 months in total and will be off to Spain afterwards to volunteer at Mothers Garden an organic olive and almond farm in Catalonia. I will ALSO be walking the Camino de Santiago across the northern part of Spain as I did that 2 years ago and it was the most amazing experience of my life. Then I am off to Scotland to visit Findhorn (an alternative spiritual and environmental communtiy) to take a course on ecovillages. I am super excited about meeting you all!
By the way is anyone flying into Pisa on March 3 in the morning?
Becky

No way! this is awesome that you have already done the camino and are planning on doing it again. and please, i would love to hear any advice/useful information that you have. mainly- any good books out there about the camino frances? i have the lonely planet guide to walking in spain but i want to get another book or two that have more options of where to stay, etc. another question- did you walk the camino alone? i would like to do this solo, and i feel pretty confident after doing nols, but i guess i am wondering if it is safe. my cousin has done parts of it and says that you meet so many people while walking. anyway, any information is greatly appreciated and definitly needed. and the almond and olive farm in spain sounds so cool. how did you score that?

thanks for the books suggestion. i just ordered it and another guide, so i should have plenty of info. ok.. one more question. what size pack did you carry when you did the camino? and what month did you do it? i am hoping that june will not be too busy so that the refugios are not full. i heard that in really busy months, walking the camino is more like a race to the next refugio so that you can secure a sleeping spot- and i definitly dont want to do this. anyways, thanks again. -kate
